Hey there, want to show your work? Break into that thing known as the insider artist circle of Philadelphia? Become the hip new thing that’s all the buzz in the culture crowd? Become rich and famous for your amazing work? You’ve got to show, you’ve got to be seen, and it’s a lot of work. Now, the original draft of this was supposed to go out in early July, but with hacking issues I just plum didn’t get it to post. So, there are things you could have done, and have missed. Each participant will receive a phrase from this passage via email, which they will then create using themselves as the subject. The whole of the selection from this book will be revealed on opening night in the Gallery. The deadline has been extended as there are 12 or so more spot to fill. I’ll be doing it! It’s so much fun. Lots of information on the facebook event page.

Hey, artists. Looking for some opportunities to get shown / curate / get involved? Marvelous.

Artist Collective Little Berlin is now accepting applications for membership. One need not be a visual artist to apply – they’re looking for “Dancers, writers, visual artists, community organizers, musicians, poets, teachers, performance artists, acrobats, athletes, architects, gardeners, longshoremen, scholars, (anyone)”¬†¬†Full details are of course, on their website. All materials are due by April 30, 2010.

Art In City Hall is something I feel ambivalent about, to put it mildly, but resume plumpers are how the game is played. Frequently they have themed shows for which one can apply, such as the Currency themed show, for which materials are due March 26. For all you nonprofit collectives out there, they’re also accepting exhibition proposals for the 5th floor community¬†corridor. They’re asking for a one page proposal with additional background information, including mission statement. Full information on both of these calls on the city website. This one, not the other one. The other one’s dead but no one removed it. Tricky.

Cafe Estelle hasn’t updated their docket of artists. You should contact Bob at info@cafeestelle.com and see about showing at the charming cafe.

In repeating myself news: Art Star is accepting applications for their 7th annual Art Star Craft Bazaar through March 23, 2010 To apply, go here.  Square Peg Artery & Salvage is currently looking for Spring Merchandise, Workshop instructors, Trunk show vendors, and Featured Artists for upcoming shows. Contact Jen Harrison at squarepegjen@gmail.com with jpeg images work, pricing guideline, and a brief bio. Piranha Betty’s Art Market has three options for showing – a flat fee, a flat percentage of sales, or a smaller commission with you minding the store for five hours a week. Full details on the website.

If you fancy yourself a “freelance curator” and would like to actually curate some shows, two new spaces have the opportunity for you to do just that. Pterodactyl’s call to curators is still ongoing with information on their website. They also accept artists submissions, if you prefer to self-identify as artist only, to keep the conflicts of interest¬†accusations¬†at bay. Meanwhile, My House Gallery is still accepting proposals for their new installation room, Compact Project Space. Everything you need to know is on their website.

Go forth, yon artists et curators. There’s no excuse to not find an avenue to be shown!
